Blue Moon by Alyson Noel blog (Fantasy)

Blue Moon's Ever Bloom is yet another heroine to fall into the freshly cliched plot of doomed love. First Twilight, then Vampire Diaries, then Blue Moon and frankly, it never worked even in the beginning. Between burning bridges and attempting suicide, the plot of these novels are way too dramatic for me. While reading this story, I did see that out of any heroine from these fantasy romance novels, Ever was definitely my favorite since she had more archetypes than the rest of them. There did come several problems though, like what was with the fad of leaving everyone for your lover whom you've known for only a month? This whole series is actually fantastic for someone into fantasy, suspense, and romance, but of you're actually looking for some brain food to broaden your knowledge of human nature, then this teen novel will just intensify the sterotype that teenagers only care about burning all bridges with reality to have a dramatic and fantastic romance. Another peeve about this book is that it made the main character the only real one there. Everyone else was so superficial and never really changed, it burned me how Ever just told you their personalities without you even learning yourself. The "popular" girls were rude and promiscious, her only female friend was just as rude, but two faced about it, leading up to why this book is a real "winner". The mysterious bad boy is the only one who understands her. Though romances are growing, they are probably the hardest to pull off, trying to show some real connection without creating a wishy-washy plot dependent on it. I give Blue Moon a 7/10 for it's likeabe heroine, decent storytelling, but horrible character development.

The Evidence Against Her blog

The Evidence Against Her by Robb Forman Dew is actually quite compatible with those a fan of A Tree Grows In Brooklyn. I originally didn't think I would like it because it was told from the point of view of Lily Scofield, an energetic girl whose "charisma" really rubs me the wrong way after some time. Seeing her being coddled by other people in their point of view really made it hard to find a piece of me in her, but not Agnes Claytor. She was an amazing character, similar to Scout from To Kill A Mockingbird, which is honestly pretty startling seeing as the little blurb on the book's jacket made her seem like some bombshell brat who should be on the Jerry Springer Show. She is such an every girl with her strained relationship with her mother, her deep loneliness with her home and her growing crush on Warren, which is too cute the way she described it. "He took a bite with a somber expression, and the working of his mouth and throat, for nearly a minute on that last Saturday of September in 1917, was the only motion in the world as far as Agnes knew." Another great part of the book was that it didn't just go into the romance of this story, it sent into their character and their life before love so that we didn't have this one sided view of the characters. Lily and Agnes and both two sides of a coin, one a energetic blond loved since birth and the other a quite brunette who never got the love she deserved. This book might look boring at first, but it really gets interesting really fast, so I recommend this book to those who like hearing about life stories, people growing, love, family and life going on through it all.

And Then There Were None blog (mystery)

Agatha Christie's And Then There Were None held an interesting aspect of it I wasn't expecting. She actually went into the characters personalities instead of jumping right into the mystery part of this book. All the characters were so varied, from school teacher Vera Claythorne to the wild driving Tony Marston, you could tell she really thought through how she wanted her characters to be portrayed by how the characters described themselves and how others described them. Another rather interesting piece was the fact that even though the story begun with going to Indian Island, very little info was given about this island where all the characters were heading to. The same "it was bought by a millionaire" was repeated by almost all the main character. This book really reminded of The Westing Game, with it's numerous characters and the shroud of mystery surrounding the head of it all. This book is kind of slow at the start, probably because there has to be some setting of the scene, but the characters are very realistic, there is bound to be at least one person you know in real life who matches at least one of the characters, so I do recommend this book, it's not long and it switches from different points of view so it won't bore you easily.
