The Evidence Against Her by Robb Forman Dew is actually quite compatible with those a fan of A Tree Grows In Brooklyn. I originally didn't think I would like it because it was told from the point of view of Lily Scofield, an energetic girl whose "charisma" really rubs me the wrong way after some time. Seeing her being coddled by other people in their point of view really made it hard to find a piece of me in her, but not Agnes Claytor. She was an amazing character, similar to Scout from To Kill A Mockingbird, which is honestly pretty startling seeing as the little blurb on the book's jacket made her seem like some bombshell brat who should be on the Jerry Springer Show. She is such an every girl with her strained relationship with her mother, her deep loneliness with her home and her growing crush on Warren, which is too cute the way she described it. "He took a bite with a somber expression, and the working of his mouth and throat, for nearly a minute on that last Saturday of September in 1917, was the only motion in the world as far as Agnes knew." Another great part of the book was that it didn't just go into the romance of this story, it sent into their character and their life before love so that we didn't have this one sided view of the characters. Lily and Agnes and both two sides of a coin, one a energetic blond loved since birth and the other a quite brunette who never got the love she deserved. This book might look boring at first, but it really gets interesting really fast, so I recommend this book to those who like hearing about life stories, people growing, love, family and life going on through it all.
